Utilizing Negative Inference in Multi-Table Tournament Play
In the game of bridge, a very important concept that is consistently used by top players is called “negative inference.” The idea behind it is that clues about the cards that another player holds can be found in what they choose NOT to do, either during the bidding or the play of the hand. A similar approach can be used in analyzing what an opponent is likely to have based on what he DOESN’T bet during a hand in a no limit holdem tourney. Let us pose an example:

How To Play A Big Stack
The start of your tournament has been good to you. You've quadrupled your starting chip stack and easily outdistanced the other players at your table. Too often, when players run into this situation they don't know what to do. They will play recklessly, feeling as if they are unbeatable, and before they know it they find themselves back to where they began, or even worse out of the tournament all together.

You're three away from the money in an online tournament and have 25,000 in chips with the blinds at 500/1,000. You are in the big blind and have A-10. It is folded to the small blind who has 55,000 in chips. He raises it a whopping 8 times the big blind. What do you do? For most players, it is a no brainer. They fold, survive to move on to the next hand, and fume a little about that small blind bullying them. The simple truth of the matter is there is a ton of poker articles about attacking the bubble. Almost everyone has read it and the good players apply it to their game. What isn't discussed often is how to defend against these bubble attackers. Learning how to properly defend on the bubble can turn a minimum cash into a big one.

The Value Of Going Deep
Many of the top internet professionals have what appears to be a reckless, carefree attitude when it comes to playing tournament poker. They'll bust out early event after event and shrug it off as if it is no big deal. Most of these players make the money at a rate well less than 20% of the time but they are still turning huge profits. Why? Because when they do cash, they go deep. Here is a typical player who cashes a lot but doesn't make it deep: 100 tournaments played (assuming a $100 buy-in on average) 21 cashes
