Top News – EPT Takes Over Copenhagen, Mizzi Cheats Again?

Another week of poker is coming to an end and yet again Online Poker 10 brings you a few of the top stories of the week so that you would know what's been going on. John Racener says that Sorel Mizzi cheated him while they were playing Chinese poker at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The UB Poker pro Shaun Deeb decided to put it all out in the open by posting the story on TwoPlusTwo. 888 Poker have launched a new feature allowing players to use webcams while playing poker online which means they will be able to experience the more live-like poker gaming. EPT Copenhagen is currently underway at the Danish capital and we've got the mid-way results. And finally, in football news NFL denies their players from entering a charity poker event.

EPT Copenhagen: Day 4

Day 4 of the European Poker Tour Main Event in Copenhagen is currently underway at the Danish Capital with only 15 players left at the tables. Sweden's Per Linde is leading the field with almost 2,5 Million in chips. He's followed by his fellow countrymen – a Full Tilt Poker pro Michael Tureniec with 1,5 Million and Joel Nordkvist holding 1,2 Million in chips. So it looks like the swede's are seriously into this one and it doesn't seem that anyone's going to get in their way. Or will they?

Here are the EPT Copenhagen 2011 Main Event standings with only 15 players left:

Mizzi Bottom Deals Racener

Last year's WSOP runner-up John Racener has caught the 2010 Bluff Magazine Player of the Year Sorel Mizzi red handed while they were playing Chinese Poker heads-up at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure back in January. Or at least that's what happened according to Shaun Deeb's post on TwoPlusTwo. The new Team UB leader was permitted by Racener to make the whole deal public and so another Mizzi cheating post on 2+2 appeared.

Here's what's been posted: “So Sorel and John during PCA were doing lots of gambling towards the end of the trip Sorel says let’s play Chinese and says we should also play with a joker. They also did some weird scoring when whoever won most pts/hands every 10 hands the winner gets $5k, Sorel had tried to bump up the stakes a few times as well to might higher. So, they are rotating the deal and the dealer gets the 14th card in 1 of their hands. Racener has played a ton of live poker, so he tends to know procedure and what to look for. He notices Sorel’s shuffling is leaving the 2 bottom cards in place they haven’t moved from the deck. As he starts to deal, he notices the first card he deals himself is the bottom card of the deck. He keeps watching Sorel and once he’s done dealing, John says he’s going take the hand with 14 cards in it Sorel goes into a tantrum saying it’s his hand his deal. John says I know what you were doing picks up the 14 card pile and shows the bottom card, which is the joker. He tells Sorel he’s not paying him whatever amount he’s down $5-$20k and that he’s a scumbag etc.”

Mizzi replied to the post by defending himself and arguing that Racener was lying and no such thing happened. However, as Mizzi himself admits that with such a long history of cheating accusations it's difficult to convince people otherwise.

Racener did not take part in the forum debate, however he said something on the topic in his interview with QuadJacks.com. According to Racener, at first Mizzi tried to get him drunk at a club before they went to his hotel room for some high-stakes poker. “Since this episode, (Mizzi) cryingly begged me over phone calls and text messaging not to say anything… I just had no interest in hiding this. For him to continue doing it to other people is just unfair.”

NFL Players Denied From Playing Poker

Last weekend the 1st annual Raise Your Hand for Africa charity poker event took place at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas. A lot of famous people came to play poker and support the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Pros for Africa both of which provide basic needs to children of Africa and support a combined African mission taking place in March.

Those two show up on the red carped were actors Steve Martin, Don Cheadle, Lou Ferrigno, Verne J. Troyer, Kevin Sorbo, Kenny Johnson, singer and model Jordin Sparks and such poker celebrities as Johnny Chan, Annie Duke, her fiance Joe Reitma, Howard Lederer, Liz Lieu, Michelle Lau and others. A number of NFL players have attended the charity event as well among which were Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Roy Williams, and Larry Johnson. However, the NFL was not happy about this at all and therefore issued an injunction on their stars who were about to take part in this poker tournament. The players were forbidden to play and could only watch and cheer. Now that must have been a bummer.
