Double Flop Hold'em Poker Rules

2009/09/28

Double Flop Hold'em Poker

Double Flop Hold'em is a rather unusual Texas Hold'em variation although the game structure is very similar to the original game. There are two community card sets in Double Flop Hold'em – two flops, two turns and two rivers. The pot is split between the first and the second flop. The name holds the whole essence of the game – Double Flop Holdem is a variation of Texas Holdem poker in which two sets of community cards are dealt on the table.

Each player receives two hole cards to use in their combinations. They may use their own cards with both community card sets to form two different hands.

Example #1

The player has A Q. The first table brings A 3 Q 4 9, the second – K J 10 8 4. The first combination consists of two pairs, the second is a straight.

Example #2

The player has
  • 1 flop

  • 1 turn

  • 1 river

  • 2 flop

  • 2 turn

  • 2 river

The first community card set brings a flush consisting of two hole hearts and three from the table. The player also has two pairs at the second table – tens and sixes.

Important Notes

In Double Flop Hold'em the players do not have to call for one of the community card sets until the showdown. It might turn out that one player collects the best combinations for both tables and gets the whole pot. Otherwise the pot is split between the two players with the best hands for different tables.

Remember, in Double Flop Holdem the cards cannot be mixed. The players must play each pot individually and collect the best hand for each of the community card sets. This might even feel like playing two poker games simultaneously.

Double Flop Hold'em Rules

At the start of the game each player is dealt two face-down cards each and the compulsory bets are followed by two flops. When the first betting round is finished 2 turn cards are dealt on the table. After one more round of betting come the 2 rivers. At the end there should be ten face-up cards on the table in two sets of five. Each player makes their best hand for each set of community cards and the pot is split in half between the two best hands for each set. It is possible for one player to have both best hands and collect the whole pot.

For example, a player has A K. The first flop brings 3 A K, the second – J 8 10. There is already a two pair in player's hand. 8 comes on the turn to the first table and Q to the second. The best choice would be to start playing the second table as it holds a straight from 10 to A.
